Pulkovo St. Petersburg Airport Celebrates the Korean Day with Drums and K-pop Dancing

On October 18, 2019, Pulkovo St. Petersburg Airport celebrated Korea Day: where traditions meet modernity festival. The event was dedicated to the development of international relations between Russia and South Korea, anticipating the 30th anniversary of diplomatic cooperation between the countries in 2020. The Korea Day was arranged by Northern Capital Gateway (NCG), the operator of Pulkovo Airport, and the Korean National Tourism Organization (KNTO).

“Passengers of Pulkovo Airport have the opportunity to travel on comfortable direct flights to Seoul with our long-term and reliable partner Korean Air. The airline provides the highest level of service on board and offers a wide range of options to continue the journey to the southern countries of Asia. We are confident that there is a potential for expanding our cooperation. Today, the main passenger traffic is in the summer season. However, the strengthening of business and cultural ties between Russia and the Republic of Korea will stimulate a steadily high mutual demand for year-round service. In addition, almost 40% of passengers annually still travel between St. Petersburg and Seoul with connected flights. Therefore, the market is ready to increase frequencies and strengthen air traffic between our countries.”

Leonid Sergeev, Chief Executive Officer of Pulkovo International Airport operator NCG

The Korea Day: where traditions meet modernity festival aimed to familiarize Pulkovo passengers and guests with the culture of this Asian country. Everyone could have their photo taken wearing bright traditional dress, the hanbok, and get to know about Korean music and dance in the airport’s check-in hall. Pulkovo passengers and guests saw Hannuri drum players, a traditional Soun dancing group performing Ararichum dance, and the modern dance group New Nation with a k-pop dance. There was also a dedicated area for women, where professional make-up artists offered a make-up service using products by famous Korean brands.

Korean Air is the only carrier of Pulkovo Airport on the St. Petersburg — Seoul rote. In the IATA Summer season 2019, the airlines performed direct scheduled flights five days a week.
