Information regarding COVID-19 measures at Pulkovo Airport

Temporary changes to airport operating hours

From April 11 to May 31, 2020, Pulkovo Airport serves flights daily from 8 a.m. to 11 p.m. (local time).

The entrance to the passenger terminal opens at 5.30 a.m., check-in starts at 6 a.m. In the evening, the entrance to the terminal closes at 11.30 p.m.

The reduced operating hours do not apply to air navigation services, the operation of communication systems, Pulkovo lighting equipment and the emergency rescue units of the airport. St. Petersburg airport continues to operate 24/7 as a diversion airport. Pulkovo is also ready to serve 24/7 delayed flights, cargo and humanitarian flights, state and business aviation flights.

Mitigation of crowds in the passenger terminal

According to the guidelines of the Federal Air Transport Agency of the Russian Federation, it is recommended to mitigate crowds in the airport in order to prevent the spread of COVID-19. In this regard, those who meet or see off are allowed to stay in the passenger terminal of Pulkovo airport for no more than 2 hours and are recommended, if possible, to reduce the number of people accompanying them.

Changes to the schedule

According to the desicion of the Government of the Russian Federation, from 00 h. 00 min. on March 27, 2020, scheduled and charter air service from Russian airports to airports of foreign countries and in the opposite direction was suspended. Exceptions are made for repatriation flights organized for Russian citizens to come back to the territory of the Russian Federation from foreign countries.

Epidemiological control

As of March 27, 2020, the officers of Rospotrebnadzor in St. Petersburg are controlling all passengers arriving in St. Petersburg by repatriation flights from foreign countries. The control procedure consists of temperature measurement using thermal scanners, the questioning of passengers and biomaterial collection for testing.

Northern Capital Gateway, the operator of Pulkovo Airport, deploys a set of measures to prevent the spread of COVID-19:

  • An emergency response centre has been established at St. Petersburg airport for joint work with airlines, state control bodies, local authorities and the Russian Federal Service for Surveillance on Consumer Rights Protection and Human Wellbeing (Rospotrebnadzor) on coronavirus matters.
  • All aircraft arriving at Pulkovo from regions with an unfavourable epidemiological situation are subject to disinfection.
  • The frequency and thoroughness of cleaning is being intensified in all Pulkovo Airport premises including elevators, check-in counters, information desks, inspection areas, offices and staff break rooms. Antiviral agents are being used for disinfection. Steps and passenger buses are disinfected regularly.
  • The air in the terminal is being purified using disinfecting units installed in areas designated for passengers. Air recirculators are operating in lavatory rooms in the international arrivals hall. An unscheduled inspection of the airport ventilation system has been made.
  • Passenger terminal has special markings at check-in counters and security checkpoints to ensure a distance of no less than 1 meter.
  • The Pulkovo Airport staff has been informed about preventive measures against spreading the coronavirus infection and the need to use personal protection equipment. The airport staff is equipped with protective masks, gloves, antiseptic wipes and gels.
  • In case of feeling unwell, passengers, visitors and staff of Pulkovo Airport may go to the first-aid station. The first-aid station is located on the second floor of the passenger terminal and operates 24/7.
